Half term gives family and friends the perfect opportunity to enjoy some quality time with one another. If you live in or near Birmingham, then the good news is that there’s plenty on your doorstep to keep you occupied during the school break. Whether you’re looking for an adventure indoors, some outdoor fun or even something more educational, Birmingham has something on offer for all ages.

Here, we’ve put together this handy guide to what’s on in Birmingham this half term.

1. LEGOLAND Discovery Centre 

If you’re looking for an indoor activity, then consider heading to LEGOLAND Discovery Centre. Perfect for those as young as three, all the way up to early teens, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is an indoor playground waiting to be explored by the whole family. Complete with a 4D cinema, soft play and building zones, this is the perfect place to keep kids busy for a few hours. LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is open from 9.30am until 4.30pm.

2. Black Country Living Museum

Step back in time this half term and enjoy a family day out at the Black Country Living Museum. This open-air museum brings history to life, with an entire Victorian town waiting to be explored. With costumed characters, old-fashioned shops and real coal mines, children can experience history first-hand. The Black Country Living Museum promises new characters for visitors this half term. Open between 10am until 5pm.

3. Kingsbury Water Park

There is so much to see and do at Kingsbury Water Park. With 15 lakes spread across 600 acres, Kingsbury Water Park makes for the perfect day out if the weather is dry. Explore one of the park’s trails on foot, hire a bike for a family ride, take in the wildlife or enjoy a picnic. It’s almost unbelievable to think that this tranquil site is just on the outskirts of a busy city. The park is open from 6.30am until 8pm.

4. Birmingham Botanical Gardens

This half term, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens is set to transform into a prehistoric paradise with its Jurassic Gardens event. Visitors have the chance to explore live ‘dino-shows’ and get stuck into prehistoric-themed crafts. This unique experience is both fun and educational at the same time. Birmingham Botanical Gardens is open daily from 10am until 5pm.

5. Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens

For a creative and colourful day out, head to Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens, where imagination comes to life this half term.

Why not try your hand at Hapa Zome? A unique and hands-on workshop where kids can create beautiful natural prints by hammering leaves and flowers onto fabric or paper. It promises to be fun, messy and unlock your kids’ creativity. (27, 28 and 29 May)

And for budding nature lovers, the Gardens will also host junior falconry experiences later in the week, an unforgettable chance for children to get up close with magnificent birds of prey and learn all about them in a safe, exciting environment. (30 May)

6. F1 Arcade Birmingham

If you’re looking for a more action-packed day, then head to the F1 Arcade. Offering an immersive experience, allowing visitors to enjoy racing simulators and interactive games. This is perfect for those with older kids and teens - especially those aspiring to be the next Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen. And with a family-friendly food menu available, you really can make a day of it. Opening times vary.

7. Rush Trampoline Park

If you’re wanting to find somewhere that guarantees to burn off the energy, then head over to Rush Trampoline Park, in Birmingham. Enjoy dodgeball, foam pits and best of all - giant trampolines - this half term. Opening times vary.

8. Wild Science at Resorts World

On 26 and 27 May, Wild Science will be heading to Resorts World. Not only will kids be able to watch live science experiments, but there will be an animal petting zoo in the atrium. Kids will love getting up close and personal with some adorable - and some exotic! - animals. Fun for all the family this half term. Visit their website for more details and specific opening times.

9. The Custard Factory, Digbeth

With various shops and attractions on offer, The Custard Factory, in Digbeth, is great for children, especially families looking for a jam-packed day out. Be sure to check out The Floodgate, an on-site activity centre with a large indoor and outdoor area - complete with a number of games, particularly perfect for children ages seven and up.

Be prepared and check your uniform

There’s nothing better than being prepared. Half term is the perfect chance to check that your child’s uniform still fits ahead of the last stint of school before the big summer break.
