Half term 2026 activities in Birmingham

Half term gives family and friends the perfect opportunity to enjoy some quality time with one another. If you live in or near Birmingham, then the good news is that there’s plenty on your doorstep to keep you occupied during the school break. Whether you’re looking for an adventure indoors, some outdoor fun or even something more educational, Birmingham has something on offer for all ages.

Here, we’ve put together this handy guide to what’s on in Birmingham this half term.

1. LEGOLAND Discovery Centre 

If you’re looking for an indoor activity, then consider heading to LEGOLAND Discovery Centre. Perfect for those as young as three, all the way up to early teens, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is an indoor playground waiting to be explored by the whole family. Complete with a 4D cinema, soft play and building zones, this is the perfect place to keep kids busy for a few hours. LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is open from 10.30am until 2.30pm, in the week, with longer opening hours at weekends.

2. Black Country Living Museum

Step back in time this half term and enjoy a family day out at the Black Country Living Museum. This open-air museum brings history to life, with an entire Victorian town waiting to be explored. With costumed characters, old-fashioned shops and real coal mines, children can experience history first-hand. The Black Country Living Museum promises new characters for visitors this half term. Open between 10am until 5pm over the spring, summer and autumn.

3. Kingsbury Water Park

There is so much to see and do at Kingsbury Water Park. With 15 lakes spread across 600 acres, Kingsbury Water Park makes for the perfect day out if the weather is dry. Explore one of the park’s trails on foot, hire a bike for a family ride, take in the wildlife or enjoy a picnic. Dogs on a lead are also welcome. It’s almost unbelievable to think that this tranquil site is just on the outskirts of a busy city. The park is open from 6.30am until 8pm.

4. Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Birmingham Botanical Gardens invites families to enjoy a changing programme of seasonal outdoor activities throughout the year, designed to spark curiosity and creativity in visitors of all ages. From interactive nature trails and storytelling sessions to hands-on learning about weather, wildlife and the natural world, there’s always something new to discover among the beautiful gardens.

Families can relax on picnic blankets or comfortable seating areas while little ones explore imaginative play zones, and special experiences such as animal encounters are often included as part of the gardens’ events programme, offering a chance to learn more about fascinating creatures and their habitats. Blending creativity, science and outdoor exploration, it’s a relaxed yet enriching day out for curious minds. The gardens are open daily from 10am until 5pm.

5. Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens

Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens comes alive throughout the year with a varied programme of nature-inspired events and seasonal activities set within its beautifully restored historic landscape.

Families can get creative with hands-on workshops, often using natural and seasonal materials, while young explorers can immerse themselves in the outdoors through activities such as pond dipping, bug hunting and interactive nature play. These experiences are designed to encourage curiosity about wildlife and the changing seasons in a fun and engaging way.

6. F1 Arcade Birmingham

If you’re looking for a more action-packed day, then head to the F1 Arcade. Offering an immersive experience, allowing visitors to enjoy racing simulators and interactive games. This is perfect for those with older kids and teens - especially those aspiring to be the next Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen. And with a family-friendly food menu available, you really can make a day of it. Opening times vary.

7. Rush Trampoline Park

If you’re wanting to find somewhere indoors that guarantees to burn off the energy, then head over to Rush Trampoline Park, in Birmingham. Enjoy dodgeball, foam pits and best of all - giant trampolines - this half term. Opening times vary.

8. The Custard Factory, Digbeth

With various shops and attractions on offer, The Custard Factory, in Digbeth, is great for children, especially families looking for a jam-packed day out. Be sure to check out The Floodgate, an on-site activity centre with a large indoor and outdoor area - complete with a number of games, particularly perfect for children ages seven and up.
