Top Spooktacular Family Events in Birmingham

With autumn just around the corner, Halloween will soon be upon us. If you’re looking for some frightfully good ways to keep the kids entertained, there’s plenty happening across Birmingham and the surrounding area. From fancy dress and family shows to live music and evenings after dark, there’s something for all ages.

Halloween events for younger children in and around Birmingham

Hocus Pocus Live Experience

The Sanderson Sisters are taking over The Old Joint Stock Pub & Theatre in Birmingham city centre for an interactive family show. Expect songs, comedy and games, with lots of chances for the audience to join in. You can also add a meet-and-greet after the show.

When:  Saturday 24 October 2026 at 1pm 

Tickets:  £13.20 children, £16.50 adults or £54 family ticket (2 adults & 2 children)

Kids Fancy Dress Halloween Party

If the kids have already chosen their Halloween costumes, here’s somewhere they can show them off. Aston University Recreation Centre in Walsall is hosting an afternoon of face painting, music, dancing and games. There’s also a fancy dress competition, and every child gets a goody bag to take home.

When:  Saturday 31 October 2026, 3pm to 8pm

Spooky Spectacular at West Midlands Safari Park

A trip to West Midlands Safari Park comes with a Halloween twist this October. Alongside seeing the animals, kids can follow the Movie Monsters Trail, do some crafts and keep an eye out for Frankie and Mitzy. Pick one of the selected dates, and you can even stay for the rides after dark.

Halloween events for older children in and around Birmingham

Halloween Spooktacular at Symphony Hall
If your children love film music, this could be one to put in the diary. Symphony Hall is bringing together some suitably eerie classics with themes they’re likely to recognise from Jaws, Ghostbusters and K-pop Demon Hunters. Arrive early, and you can also take advantage of an hour of free craft activities before the concert begins.

When:  Sunday 25 October 2026 at 3pm

Halloween Nights at Black Country Living Museum

Older kids who want something a little more atmospheric might enjoy seeing Black Country Living Museum after dark. Its historic streets provide the backdrop for an evening of trick-or-treating, costumed characters and live entertainment. Younger siblings can come along too, making it an option if you’re planning a Halloween outing for the whole family.

When:  24, 29, 30 and 31 October 2026, 6.30pm to 10pm

Tickets:  £20.95 adults, £16.95 ages 3 to 15, under 3s free

Refresh their school uniform this half-term

October half-term is also a handy opportunity to take stock of school uniform. Children grow quickly, and by this point in the school year you might have spotted a few pieces that are getting a little snug or aren't quite warm enough for winter.
