If you’re a parent or teacher in Birmingham, then it’s key for you to keep track of term dates well in advance. This way, you can plan holidays, activities and, of course, any necessary childcare. Plus, knowing when the Birmingham school holiday will ensure you have a well-organised school year.

To help, here is an overview of Birmingham’s school term dates for the remainder of 2025 and into 2026.

It’s worth noting that Birmingham City Council sets the dates on this page. The school year is 195 school days (39 weeks) long, with students in school for 190 of those days. Five of the 195 days are reserved for teacher training. It’s always worth checking with your school to see if these dates apply. 

Spring - Summer Birmingham School Term Dates 2025

Spring Term (2025)

  • Half-term: Monday 17 February to Friday 21 February 

  • Back to school: Monday 24 February

  • Term ends: Friday 11 April 

Summer Term (2025)

  • Term starts: Monday 28 April 

  • Half-term break: Monday 26 May to Friday 30 May 

  • Back to school: Monday 2 June

  • Term ends: Monday 21 July

Following a well-earned rest over half-term, the remainder of the Spring Term 2025 is six weeks for Birmingham schools before their Easter holidays kick in. 

Schools return on Monday 28 April, with a well-timed half-term breaking it up in the middle from Monday 26 May, until Friday 30 May. This will give families a chance to relax and recharge or enjoy an early getaway in the sunshine, before the final push to the end of the Birmingham school year.

This year (2025), the term ends on Monday 21 July, giving children and families a long summer holiday to look forward to. Whether you have plans to travel abroad, unwind on a ‘stay-cation’, take a day trip out to some of Birmingham’s top attractions, or have a picnic at your local park, families have six weeks to prepare for the next academic year.

Having enjoyed a six-week break, the Autumn Term kicks off the new academic year in Birmingham on Monday 1 September. The October half-term break is a welcomed pause during the autumn months, giving families the chance to enjoy seasonal activities before the run-up to Christmas. The Winter Term finishes on Friday 29 December.

Students in Birmingham return to school in the new year on Monday 5 January 2026. Six weeks in and the February half-term takes place from Monday 16 to Friday 20, with the last stint of the Spring Term ending on Friday 27 March, ahead of the 2026 Easter holidays.

The last of the school term dates for the academic year 2025/26 in Birmingham is the summer term. Beginning on Monday 13 April, with the May half-term break sitting in the middle between Monday 25 to Friday 29. The summer Birmingham school holidays 2026 start on Monday 20 July, when the term officially ends.
