Birmingham school term 2026-27 dates

If you’re a parent or teacher in Birmingham, then it’s key for you to keep track of term dates well in advance. This way, you can plan holidays, activities and, of course, any necessary childcare. Plus, knowing when the Birmingham school holiday will ensure you have a well-organised school year.

To help, here is an overview of Birmingham’s school term dates for 2026 and into 2027.

It’s worth noting that Birmingham City Council sets the dates on this page. The school year is 195 school days (39 weeks) long, with students in school for 190 of those days. Five of the 195 days are reserved for teacher training. It’s always worth checking with your school to see if these dates apply.

Following a well-earned rest over half-term, the remainder of the Spring Term 2026 is five weeks for Birmingham schools before their Easter holidays kick in. 

Schools return on Monday 13 April, with a well-timed half-term breaking it up in the middle from Monday 25 May, until Friday 29 May. This will give families a chance to relax and recharge or enjoy an early getaway in the sunshine, before the final push to the end of the Birmingham school year.

This year (2026), the term ends on Monday 20 July, giving children and families a long summer holiday to look forward to. Whether you have plans to travel abroad, unwind on a ‘stay-cation’, take a day trip out to some of Birmingham’s top attractions, or have a picnic at your local park, families have six weeks to prepare for the next academic year.

Having enjoyed a six-week break, the Autumn Term kicks off the new academic year in Birmingham on Tuesday 1 September. The October half-term break is a welcomed pause during the autumn months, giving families the chance to enjoy seasonal activities before the run-up to Christmas. The Winter Term finishes on Friday 18 December.

Students in Birmingham return to school in the new year on Monday 4 January 2027. Six weeks in and the February half-term takes place from Monday 15 to Friday 19, with the last stint of the Spring Term ending on Thursday 25 March, ahead of the 2027 Easter holidays.

The last of the school term dates for the academic year 2026/27 in Birmingham is the summer term. Beginning on Monday 12 April, with the May half-term break sitting in the middle between Monday 31 to Friday 4 June. The summer Birmingham school holidays 2027 start on Thursday 22 July, when the term officially ends.
